Dalaway
Dalaway, designated as a Forest Reserve, although the exact date of designation is unspecified, covers 5.86 km2 and falls under the management of The Forestry Department. Situated within the 10,870-acre St. Vincent Parrot Reserve, accounting for over 90% of its area, Dalaway Reserve plays a crucial role in preserving the rich biodiversity of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
This reserve serves as a vital habitat for the endangered St. Vincent Parrot, with an estimated population of 164 individuals in 2004. Hosting thirteen regionally-endemic species, two globally-threatened species, and various other notable avian residents, including the House Wren, Short-tailed Swift, Scaly-naped Pigeon, and Caribbean Elaenia, Dalaway is a stronghold for diverse birdlife. Beyond avian biodiversity, the reserve boasts a rich array of non-bird species, including endemic herpetofauna and flora, contributing significantly to the ecological diversity of this important conservation area.
